Logistics is a complex and dynamic industry. Having started working within the international freight industry in 2015, I hope to bring a unique perspective to my role as a key account manager at BR International. I’m passionate when it comes to managing all the customers I am responsible for, as a key account manager and collaborating with the amazing team I have working with me. Let me take you through my journey into logistics, my day-to-day routine, and how I leverage technology to excel in my role.
Introduction to Logistics
I have grown up with family members working within the forwarding industry and have spent much of my childhood in warehouses, helping with container unpacks and the yearly Christmas gift basket creations for my family business. I didn’t initially plan on a career in logistics. My educational pursuits led me in a different direction at first, and from there I wanted to find an industry where I could utilise these skills and learn more. A temporary contract with an Importer and a well-timed opportunity with a freight company opened the door to the world of logistics. The competitive and intricate nature of the industry, coupled with a refurbishment project involving 40 different vendors and multiple freight forwarders, solidified my interest in the field.
Morning Routine at BRi
My mornings are quite straightforward. Upon arriving at the office early in the morning the first order of business is settling the coffee needs. Yes it’s a routine that is religiously followed allowing me to get ready for the big day ahead! Once everyone else is fuelled up and caffeinated, I dive into my daily agenda and check in with my team.
Day-to-Day Activities
As a key account manager, my day involves emails, note-taking, report management, research and speaking to our clients over the phone or these days via Zoom, teams whatever it takes! Amidst my bustling schedule, maintaining a straightforward yet friendly approach is essential. Honesty and clear communication are crucial when building relationships with our clients, and fostering trust with the customers who value transparent interactions. This has been reinforced to me since I began at BRi with a clear policy around “client expectations.”
At BR International, we pride ourselves on being more than just a service provider. It involves being a trusted advisor and collaborator in our client’s success journey. Whether it’s being a face-to-face sounding board for clients, providing constructive feedback to my team, or adeptly navigating the fluctuations of the trade, fostering genuine relationships and delivering tailored solutions is at the core of what I do.
Leveraging Technology and Innovative Solutions
Technology plays a vital role in enhancing my work. From utilising data analysis tools to strategising with the team on one of BRi BI tools, we strive to keep clients informed and involved. My goal is to demonstrate to clients how these tools can empower them to make informed decisions and improve their businesses. BRi tools such as Pathway and BRi Connect bring a level of control to clients that is superior in the market, and my job is to ensure our clients are comfortable utilising them and I need to captivate them with this in their own language.
One example showcasing our commitment to finding innovative solutions for our clients was that of the following.
Amidst a challenging period where the client’s trading hit a low point, the customer made the tough decision to cut a specific product line due to the high Australian Import Duty tax on importation. Determined to grasp the entirety of the situation, myself and others delved deep into the matter, consulting with his legal team and in turn this led me to have many internal meetings with BRi Customs Brokerage team members to uncover every possible angle. After continuously seeking alternatives, we stumbled upon a glimmer of hope: a portion of the product line had been mislabelled, offering a solution for the client to reintroduce 50% of the product line back into his sales portfolio as this specific product can be imported without incurring a specific additional tax. I never wavered in my pursuit of solutions and found a cost-effective solution that ensured the client could continue operations smoothly.
Commitment to Client Partnerships
The BRi model is centred around partnering closely with clients. I prioritise regular check-ins and foster strong relationships, often leading to open, honest conversations about their business – which usually gives me a greater insight into their situations.
Working in logistics can be stressful, with high stakes and intense deadlines. I take on the challenges of the business personally as if it were my own, so I feel what my clients feel. However, the roller coaster of emotions also brings immense satisfaction when my team and I win big for our clients.

Since joining BRi in 2022, I’ve continued to grow and evolve alongside a team dedicated to excellence. Together we are committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the freight and logistics industry and aim to provide unparalleled service to our entire client base.
My decision to Join BR International was driven by the energy and enthusiasm of the entire senior leadership team. Whilst under the guidance and mentorship of senior colleagues at BRi it’s a place where I can expand my skills and make meaningful contributions to projects, ensuring both personal and professional growth.
